| Course contents : | Partim: Chemical kinetics. The course deals first with the basic concepts of chemical kinetics, with the phenomenological laws and the main experimental techniques. Several typical reaction mechanisms and their kinetic consequences are then discussed. Emphasis is put on heterogeneous catalysis. The course concludes with an introduction to transition state theory. |

| Course objective : | At the end of the course, the students are expected to be able to establish the links between a proposed molecular reaction mechanism and the experimentally determined macroscopic kinetic laws. |

| Prerequisites : | General chemistry course at the bachelor level. Basic physics and calculus. |

| Workshops : | The laboratory practicums cover the following topics: (i) transport phenomena (viscosity); (ii) chemical kinetics: classical and modern (study of a reaction kinetics by mass spectrometry or UV spectroscopy) approaches |

| Organization : | Two-hour lectures during the second quadrimester |
 |
| Written notes : | Partim chemical kinetics: lecture notes are available. |
 |
| Assessment : | The laboratory practicums are assessed based on written reports.
The theoretical knowledge is assessed during an oral examination. |
