16. The glandular epithelia
17. The connective tissues and the cartilage
18. Bone tissue
19. Muscles
20. The nervous tissuse and Blood
Course objective :  This course will be devoted to the study of the cell structure and their functions, common denominator of the life matter. The modalities of cell multiplication and reproduction will be also described. Finally, we will examine the functional organization of different animal tissues.
Workshops :  Practical works concretely illustrate important aspects of the course. The sessions of practical works will give the first quadrimester in the Great Hall of practical work of the Institute of Zoology (building I1, 22, quai Van Beneden, Liege).

TP1: How to use a microscope and a binocular magnifying glass (common to this course and those of plant biology and animal)
TP2: osmosis and membrane permeability
TP3: Cell energetics
TP4: Mitosis and meiosis
Organization :  The cell biology lectures are given on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:30 to 12:00 during the first 8 weeks of the first quadrimester.

The tissue biology lectures are given in the first quadrimester, on monday from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, in the Great Hall of practical work (1st floor) of the Institute of Zoology (Bldg. I1, quai Van Beneden 22 in Liege). Each theoretical course is followed in the same room with a session of practical work (10:30 to 13:00), where students examine different histological preparations illustrating the course.
Written notes :  Notes and a guide of practical works are available to students at the beginning of the academic year.

Assessment :  Tests on the subject of the practical work will be held at the end of each session of practical works in cell biology.
An examination in the form of a oral test will be focused on any matter (theory and practice).

The overall mark submitted for deliberation will consider the interrogation points obtained at the end of practical work sessions and the mark of oral exam.

Remarks :  The practical works constitute substantial assistance in the acquisition of knowledge, in the acquisition of a critical spirit and in the development of a sense of observation. To be profitable, assistance to practical works involves the previous study of the corresponding matter (at least a thorough reading). The presence in the practical works is mandatory. Any absence for medical reasons must be justified by a certificate. In case of repeated unjustified absences, the student will be denied access to the examination of cell biology.
