BIOC0322-2  Proteins biochemistry
Duration :  20h Th, 15h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
Bachelor in biomedical sciences, 2nd yearSecond semester4
One-year preliminary programme leading to the master in biomedical sciences4
Holder(s) :  Bernard Rogister
Language :  French language
Course contents :  This second part is dedicated to protein biochemistry. The major sub-disions are :

1. From sequence to structure

2. From structure to function

3. Control of protein function

4. From sequence to function

5. Structure determination
Course objective :  1. To give informations thorough on protein structure and function (a course of Molecular Biology will be delivered later on).

2. To allow students to approach thereafter the courses of human physiology, of molecular biology on a solid basis of knowledge in biochemistry and protein chemistry.

3. To familiarize the students with scientific English

4. To develop the critical point of view of the students by exposing the facts pro and countered certain assumptions still incompletely checked at the present time.
Prerequisites :  General Biology, general cytology, general Biochemistry (partim I) and general physiology.
Workshops :  The PW will be organized in the form of five seminars describing major experiments having given place to new concepts. These interactive seminars force the student to think of the questions put by the researchers, of the method implemented by researchers to answer these put questions and of the importance of the analysis of results. These seminars proceed in French.
Organization :  Lectures
program and schedule detailed in vade-mecum

Practical work
program and schedule detailed in vade-mecum
Written notes :  English text book is available. The students will also have access to the files of illustrations of the lecture. Lastly, addresses and the accesses to several web sites specialized in this field will be given to the students.
Assessment :  Written and oral examination on lectures and seminars is organized according to the general program of the studies.
