Course contents :  Introduction to the chemistry of living organisms: structural and dynamic aspects.
Course objective :  General introduction to the properties of living matter et the molecular level.
1. Organic chemistry
2. The living cell
3. Structure of proteins
4. DNA, RNA and protein synthesis. Mutations, heredity and genetic engineering
5. The functions of proteins
6. Energy and metabolism: glycolysis and photosynthesis.
7. Cristallography and biological macromolecule structures.
Prerequisites :  General chemistry.
Chemical thermodynamics.
Workshops :  - Exercises : organic chemistry applied to living matter
- Solving of a protein structure in silico on the basis of X-ray diffraction data.
Organization :  14 4-hr periods each comprising 2 hrs of theory and 2hrs of practicals
Written notes :  Some illustrations available on informatic support.
Assessment :  Written exam
