| Course contents : | This workshop offers two modules allowing students to learn about the specificities of town planning projects compared to architectural projects.
The first module is devoted to reflecting upon economic activity, more specifically in the urban environment. After an introduction in the form of lectures and visits to identify the challenges and constraints of this type of operation, students must produce a critical analysis of a project of their choice. They will then chose a site, from four proposals and develop a town planning project with a dominantly economic programme.
The theme of the second module in the second term will be the main projects underway in the Liègois agglomeration. After presenting the general policies and all the major projects by different actors, students will analyse the main projects on the basis of both the procedures and the project itself. From one of the projects studied, they will then identify a question which particularly strikes them and to which they then respond by drawing up propositions in the form of a project. Each student can thus choose the problem which they wish to address according to their own preferences, interests or which they have identified as a major current challenge to be dealt with ...
These projects will include:
- Refining a methodology for collection, selection and synthetic formulation - notably cartographical - of information and intentions;
- Meeting and discussing with actors involved in land development: associations, the administration, politicians, technicians ...
- An analysis of the possibilities and constraints of the field of intervention;
- Assessing the needs to be met and establishing a programme;
- Developing a town planning project.

 |
| Course objective : | To learn, particularly through two practical projects:
- How to develop a critical analysis of a town planning project;
- How to understand the process of producing a town planning project and identifying the relevant actors;
- To analyse the possibilities and constraints of a site; to define a programme and translate it into a space by integrating questions of parsimonious land management addressing issues of density, mobility and accessibility, mixing functions and social use, integration and showcasing the nature landscape and social life ... Particular attention will be given to non-built spaces, their definition, quality and the links which they have with built spaces.
- To become aware of the political dimension of a town planning project.
