ARSL1627-1  Technical information B
Duration :  26h Th
Credits/ECTS :
Master en architecture (Saint Luc), 1st yearFirst semester2
Holder(s) :  Olivier Henz
Language :  French language
Course contents :  The programme includes:
  • Calculating energy audits: considering energy loss through conduction and ventilation, internal sources and passive solar energy, technical equipment ...
  • Walls: composition of different layers in a wall and calculating water vapour diffusion through it.
  • Details: verification of constructive nodes and calculating linear thermal bridges
  • Eco audit: calculating an overall ecological audit, from the need for grey energy, CO2 equivalent emissions ...
Course objective :  To include energy aspects in all phases of architectural design. To verify the different energetic and conceptual performances using tools to help the decision making process in the form of simulation software. To cultivate a critical approach in terms of preconceived ideas, energetic and architectural solutions. To learn to analyse, quantify and improve constructive solutions in terms of:
  • Constructive systems;
  • Conventional and ecological/alternative materials;
  • Thermal insulation requirements;
  • Thermal bridges.
  • From openings to water vapour diffusion through walls.
  • From water-tightness to air and wind-tightness.
  • ...
Prerequisites :  Baccalaureat: Technological and constructive disciplines:
  • Construction technologies
  • Building equipment (thermal comfort ...)
  • Material technology
IT:
  • Modelling tools, design and simulation
Masters: Science and technology:
  • Construction
  • Building equipment
Organization :  Analysis and verification of theoretical concepts and simulations as applied to reference projects or to the micro-architecture workshop projects. Systematic application of theoretical teaching in the practical workshops.
Written notes :  Software used during class:
  • PHPP: static simulation software for designing passive buildings.
  • THERM: dynamic simulation software applied to finished components in order to calculate linear thermal bridges.
  • WUFI: dynamic simulation software for making realistic calculations of transitory heat and mass transfer in construction components on several layers subject to natural climatic conditions
Assessment :  Production (written document) and presentation (oral defence) of an analytical piece of group work.
