Course contents :  The 3rd Baccalaureat course follows the work carried out in the 2nd year. It focuses on the following points :
  • Increasing understanding of reading through studying and analysing texts on different themes relating to architecture.
  • A piece of work on mastering presentation techniques and interpersonal communication (inspired by Process Communication Management by T. Kahler)
  • The presentation of simple projects by different Belgian architects (extending the 2nd year course)
  • Presentation of more complex projects (within the framework of the 3rd Baccalaureat workshop)
  • Presentations of student's own projects carried out in workshops throughout the year.
Course objective :  
  • To be able to understand a real text dealing with architecture and to summarise it in English.
  • To build a structured presentation in English.
  • To be able to make a dynamic and lively presentation in English
  • To be able to describe fairly complex processes
  • To react to questions
  • To be able to argue in favour of an idea, a solution or an opinion
  • To formulate an hypothesis
  • To set out one's own agreement or disagreement
Prerequisites :  Level A1 (European Framework of Reference) and know 300 technical terms which are commonly used in the field of architecture.
Organization :  Because the aim is to improve student's ability to make oral presentations of a technical nature, teaching will use public speaking and preparation of presentations on the work of famous architects as well as students' own projects. Teaching will focus on practical exercises and additional work will be required out of class. This work will take the form of exercises aiming mainly to strengthen passive active vocabulary and vocabulary relating specifically to architecture.

Assessment :  Student assessment will take place on two levels:
  • Drafting a summary of an architectural text of around 25 pages, chosen by the student
  • Making a 15-minute oral presentation on their final workshop project
