Course contents :  Thematic approaches to non-constructed space in the urban environment :
  • Ephemeral gardens, commentary on a town: Interpretation of a town through its empty spaces. Translation of permanent structures in public spaces, parks and gardens.
  • The system of public spaces: Identification of significant spaces.
  • Creating a public space: history of a project, from programming to management.
  • Specific means of composing non-built public spaces, parks and gardens.
  • Revealed through gardens, the idea of nature as the basis of all cultures.
Course objective :  Adopting a centrifugal view: using conventional constructed space, consider the range of non-constructed lived-in spaces and define to what extent and by what means they are architectured.
Confront other scales and other means of action in the lived-in space.
To define the limits and conditions under which the field of architectural intervention on these spaces can be developed, and articulate this in relation to other disciplines.
Organization :  Theoretical presentations and thematic seminars based on concrete cases.
Assimilation and integration of theoretical knowledge through a case study carried out in groups.
Written notes :  Course notes: analytical documents distributed throughout the seminars.
Assessment :  Presentation of the teams' research work through a seminar.
This work will be assessed according to the following criteria :
  • use and application of theoretical elements taught in class
  • ability to understand and analyse a real context
  • mode of communicating research to the whole group.
