Course contents :  Revision and extension of the 1st cycle course - 1st year:
  • analysis of isostatic structures through graphic and analytical procedures;
  • revising the concepts of force, moment, reduction, balance, determining internal constraints;
  • concept of internal balance;
  • articulated truss (Crémona, Ritter method)
Introduction to stability course:
  • centre of gravity;
  • moment of inertia;
  • traction, compression, flexion;
rational forms of structural elements
Course objective :  Follow-up to the Graphostatic Mechanics 1 course: graphic visualisation and mathematical control of balance and the division of internal stress in isostatic structures.
Prerequisites :  Concepts acquired during the Mechanics 1 course.
Organization :  1/3 of time in lectures devoted to theory.
2/3 of time in practical tutorials.
Written notes :  Introduction à l'Analyse des Structures de François Frey, by the Ecole Polytechnique de Lausanne and Marc-André Studer.
Assessment :  At the end of the year, a written theory exam (multiple choice) and exercises.
