| Course contents : | With the dawn of post-modern anthropology, modern social theories were suspected (in the strong, philosophical sense of the term) to be underpinned by implicit ideologies and to wish to tyrannically support universal responses to the questions which they posed. In this context social science crisis, since the 1980s researchers from various disciplines have not hesitated to build interdisciplinary dialogue and to propose new ways of approaching social/societal questions by "exploding" classical epistemological and methodological frameworks to uncover forgotten problems (those of the body in generation and the urban body in particular); rehabilitating those approaches which had previously been scorned (imaginary or artistic representations ...) ; approaching the characteristic phenomena of our time (nomadism, urban culture, ghettos ...). After having defined what could be "an anthropology of the contemporary world" we will examine questions of the anthropology of space which are as fundamental to the architect as place, habitat and building. |

| Course objective : | By the end of the course, students should, for example, be able to:
- answer questions about the concepts and basic methods of the anthropology of supermodernity (covered in class);
- define what it is the habitat, according to Heidegger, an heteropia according to Foucault, a non-place according to Augé...;
- to analyse architectural or urban creations using a grid which distinguishes: topical, pantopical and atopical architecture (according to Godin and Mühlethaler);

| Prerequisites : | None, with the exception of elementary knowledge presumed to have been acquired during courses on Forms and Sites, Theory, Town Planning, Philosophy and Social Sciences ... |

| Organization : | Lectures - including question and answer sessions. Projection of extracts from films or programmes about the town and architecture. |
