Course contents :  Each lesson will focus on a project which will be analysed in detail. The aim will be to highlight the complexity of its development, the steps taken and interpretations made, the concepts of context and modifications, the choice of techniques, architectural expression, installation and the relevance of the project in terms of its period and culture, the influence of the project on the history of architecture and more generally in the cultural consciousness.
For example: Saint Peter's Square in Rome, the Town Hall in Saynatsala by Alvar Aalto, the Monastery in Assisi, the San Marco Square in Venice, the Malaparte House in Capri, the Unité d'Habitation by Le Corbusier in Marseille, the Vaux-le-Vicomte Palace and park, Fallingwater by F.L. Wright, the Cathedral and the 'Campo' in Sienna, the Pavilion in Barcelona by Mies van der Rohe, San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane by Borromini, the town of Sienna, etc.
Course objective :  Through outstanding examples and more basic questions, the course will address the concept of "composition" based on architectural project work. Students will also directly analyse a project to acquire their own method for analysis, re-transcription, research and illustration.
Prerequisites :  Sufficient knowledge of the theories of architecture, experience of a sufficiently important project in the workshop, basic knowledge of the history of art and general knowledge.
Organization :  Lectures with slideshows, detailed analysis of each project.
