| Course contents : | Introduction to theories of architecture.
Development of the themes currently being addressed in architectural practice and in urban, territorial, landscape and programmatic questions.
The evolution of thought from the treatise of Vitruve to that of L.B. Alberti and its numerous interpretations.
Theoretical questions in modern times and their contribution to new disciplines.
An important part of the course is dedicated to 20th century theories and several trains of thought and architectural practice.
The notions of Treaty, Code, Orders, Charter, Manifesto, etc. as well as questions linking architecture to literature, text to images, utopia to constructive practice, and social culture to artistic expression. |

| Course objective : | This course should offer students an insight into the main questions in architectural practice through the ages and in particular should shed light on the trends of the 20th century and upon the questions which have led to evolution in the architectural discipline.
Giving students a global perspective which should complete their learning in the history of architecture. |
