| Course contents : | This course will present the current debates of this research area. A few theoretical and methodological tools will be introduced. It will address the following themes: the contemporary trends in the anthropology of the senses; cultural hierarchies of the senses; synaesthesia; a reflexion on methods of objectification of sensations; the role of the senses in power relationships, religious and uncanny experiences, uses and planning of space, media-related devices. Students will put these into practice through an ethnographic observation exercise. |

| Course objective : | First, students would gain knowledge of the history and topicality of the questionings of the anthropology of the senses, its main concepts and methodological tools and their relevance to other fields of inquiry in anthropology. Second, they would master a critical practice of ethnography regarding the senses. |
