AERO0023-1  Aircraft design
Duration :  30h Th, 30h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
Master in Aerospatial Engineering, in-depth approach, 1st yearFirst semester5
Master in Aerospace Engineering, Professional Focus (Management), 1st yearFirst semester5
Holder(s) :  Grigorios Dimitriadis, Ludovic Noels
Language :  French language
Course contents :  During these classes, the students will learn about the integrated design of an aircraft. Indeed, each technical field is seen as a sub-system interacting with the others.

Therefore, the organisation is as follows. An introductive talk describes, through history, these interactions, and a concluding talk will introduce the project of designing an aircraft.

Between these two classes, professors will introduce the concepts of

  • Aerodynamics
  • Structures
  • Propulsion (flow and mechanical design)
  • Performances
  • Stability
  • Aeroelasticity
Course objective :  To acquire the methodology to conduct a conceptual design in aeronautics.
Prerequisites :  Elementary knowledge in

  • Solid mechanics
  • Fluid mechanics
Workshops :  Industrial partners are invited to give lectures during which they illustrate the theoretical concepts with realizations of aeronautic companies.
Organization :  Available on WebCt (http://www.intranet.ulg.ac.be/cgi/webct_login.pl?url=http://www.webct.ulg.ac.be/webct/logon/117191053001.)
Written notes :  Reading material on WebCt (http://www.webct.ulg.ac.be/webct/logon/117191053001)
Assessment :  The evaluation is based on a project, which consists in the pre design of a turbojet.
