VTFE0004-1  Final Work, 2d part
Duration :
Credits/ECTS :
Master in Veterinary Medicine, 3rd yearToute l'année13
Holder(s) :  Jacques Mainil
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  Paragraph #64 of the "décret Bologne" of the French Community of Belgium reads : "All University study programs leading to a bachelor degree must comprise a Final Year Work (FYW) accounting for 15 to 29 credits. This FYW concerns any teaching activity, including stages and other professional-learning activities, to emphasize the following qualities of the students: autonomy, criticism, personal qualities and professional competences. The FYW comprises at least a written manuscript."

All information regarding the organization and the realization of the FYW, the presentation and the explanation of the evaluation criteria, the recommendations to the authors for the manuscripts of the 2nd and 3rd GMV and for the oral presentation at the end of the 3rd GMV, for the students and the tutors, are present on the website of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine under the title "TFE" (file "Guide du TFE 2009").
Course objective :  The FYW must allow the tutors and the students to appreciate the level of metacognition of the latter (= to know how one learns and what one knows; to learn to know oneself during the learning process). The purpose of the FYW is therefore far beyond a simple restitution procedure of professional knowledge.
Organization :  The FYW is spread over two years: 2nd and 3rd GMV. During the 3rd GMV, the student will pursue his/her work with the presentation and the discussion of experimental results (orientation Research), of clinical cases (orientation Clinics), ..., related to the domain of the Veterinary Medicine that was the topic of the literature review during the 2ndGMV. The work during the 3rdGMV must be performed all along the academic year. Two weeks are foreseen in the program to finalise the work and to write the final manuscript.

In addition to the written document, the work of 3rdGMV comprises an oral defense, with an oral presentation in French (5 minutes) and answers to questions (5 minutes). The oral defense will happen at the end of the academic year, according to a timetable that will be determined, in front of an examination board of the department.

The tutor will receive five exemplars of the manuscript on the final weekday before the opening of the exam session. On exemplar in pdf format will be sent to Dr Jean-Michel Vandeweerd.

The recommendations to the authors for the manuscript and for the oral presentation are described in the GUIDE du TFE 2009" on the website of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Cover pages should be downloaded from the same website.
Assessment :  The evaluation of the FYW must be continuous and coherent. The evaluation procedure is first formative, i.e. it must guide the student to the level of excellence (form D) and then certificative, i.e. with a note (forms E, F and G) to attest of the quality of the work. This note comprises the evaluation of the work during the academic year (form E: 25%) and the evaluation of the manuscript (form F: 25%). The note of the 3rd GMV also comprises the evaluation of the oral defense: oral presentation, ppt slides and answers to the questions (form G: 50%). The different evaluation forms should be downloaded from the website of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
