Course contents :  
Anaesthesia

Students will learn how to anethetize the patients, refreed to the clinic, and will anesthetize pateints themselves during the ambulatory clinic

Intensive care

Students participate to the hospitalisation of cases, mostly refered .

Course objective :  
Intensive care

Pedagogic objectives include

- Ability to take an accurate history in companion animal cases

- Ability to analyse historical and clinical data

- Ability to establish a differential diagnosis,

- Ability to establish a vital and economic prognosis

- Ability to establish a treatment, and to apply it

- Practice of problem solving approach

- Learn how to present a case in a synthetic fashion to colleagues

Learn to implement precoutionnary measures regarding biosecurity issues in companion animals

Lectures of first and second doctorat: semiology, propedeutics and medical pathology of small animals. Biosecurity manual

There are no specific leaflets, although lots of written leaflets exist, for different practical seminars.

Clinical teaching is ensured throughout a seven-week clinical carrousel and associated seminars, together with participation to the emergency service during nights, week-ends and holiday periods.

Groups of students and clinical rotations are available at the beginning of the carrousel periods

Intensive care

Clinical teaching is ensured throughout a seven-week clinical carrousel and associated seminars, together with participation to the emergency service during nights, week-ends and holiday periods.

Clinics are obligatory from 7h45 to 17h30, and from 16h45 up to 8h30 the next day when on night duty


Groups of students and clinical rotations are available at the beginning of the carrousel periods


Each student has to fill in a written case log as well as full written report based on a clinical case

The presence of the student is obligatory. For each absence or late arrival, the student needs to be excused within a very brief delay, by means of a medical certificate, which has to be sent immediately to the secretary of the concerned service, with a copy to the general student secretariat. Missed days need to be made up.

Unjustified absence will be taken into account during deliberations.
