Course contents :  The main objective of the course seeks to challenge the concept of "democracy" and to list all the significations this concept possesses.

This is a large objective since we will study politics, parties, ideologies, political programmes, institutions and actors in both Belgium and the European Union. Sometimes when it is useful, we will also study the question through an historical and a comparative perspective with other nations all around the world.

This is also a very focused objective since the all courses will be about and only about democracy.
Course objective :  - critical analysis of the concept of "democracy" in a multi-disciplinary perspective (political philosophy, political science, political sociology, history)

- case studies and empirical description of the democratic politics in a comparative perspective
Prerequisites :  Bachelor in Human Science (political science, law, sociology, media, philosophy, history, etc.)
Workshops :  In accordance with the students, it will be possible for them to give a lecture within the context of the case studies seen during the course.
Organization :  The course will be made of lectures with possible invited lecturers from different professional fields.

In 2009, the course starts on September 18 at Séminaire 11 (B31). We will gather each friday "same time same place" until the 18th of December except for the 16th and the 30th of October when the course will not be given.
Written notes :  Books, notes and visual aids will be mentioned at the beginning of the course.
