| Duration : | 30h Th |
| Credits/ECTS : |
| Holder(s) : | Yves Crama |
| Language : | Langue anglaise |
| Course contents : | The seminar contains several independent parts dealing with specialized topics in operations research, which we will be examining both from a practical and from a theoretical point of view. The selection of topics is quite flexible and may depend on the audience (previous education, research interests, personal involvement) and on other factors (current research projects of the lecturer, input from outside lecturers, companies, etc.).
For illustration, topics covered in previous years included:
- advanced topics in linear programming: column generation, decomposition techniques, ...
- combinatorial optimization: minimum spanning trees, matchings, network flow problems, ...
- fundamental models of game theory and social choice.
- location theory |
| Course objective : | This research seminar is intended for students who either plan to specialize in operations research, or who expect to make significant use of OR and related quantitative methods as part of their research activities.
It aims to
- introduce the students to new OR models and techniques;
- offer a research forum where the students can present their own research work and submit it to their peers' criticisms.
| Prerequisites : | At least one introductory OR course and a good background in mathematics.
A strong motivation for self-study and intellectual challenges. |
| Organization : | Individual reading, homeworks and discussion of material in class.
Oral presentations by the students. |
| Written notes : | Material will be distributed in class. |
| Assessment : | There is no final exam for this course.
Your final grade will be based on several elements : the evaluation of your involvement (presence, quantity and quality of interventions), grading of homework exercises and of the oral presentations (content and form). |
