Credits/ECTS :
Bachelor in physical sciences, 1st yearDeuxième quadrimestre12
Holder(s) :  Hervé Caps, Nicolas Vandewalle
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  Outline :

- Electric field
- Gauss' Law
- Electrical potential
- Capacitance and dielectric
- Current and resistance
- Direct current circuits
- Magnetic field
- Sources of magnetic field
- Faraday's Law
- Inductance
- Alternating current circuits
- Maxwell's Equations
Course objective :  The aim of the lectures is to give the students a basic knowledge on physical electromagntism. Focus is put on an intuitive and phenomenological presentation in order to devlop some physical sense. This organisation is supposed to facilitate the access to more complete formalism during the following years of studies.
Prerequisites :  Elementary skills on mathematics and physics at the level of secondary school.
Workshops :  Laboratory experiments as well as series of exercices are organized. These activities take place with smaller groups for encouraging the inter-activity.
Organization :  Theoretical lecures are ex cathedra and mainly concern the explanation of fundamental concepts. During training meetings, this theoretical knowledge is applied.
Written notes :  Physique Electricité - Benson

PDF files of the different slides are freely downloadable on the internet (www.grasp.ulg.ac.be).
Assessment :  Written evaluation on january. Theoretical concepts and exercices are asked.

Laboroatory exam is organized in june. The students are asked to re-do and explain an experimental setup presented during school time.

The oral exam (in june), mainly focus on theoretical concepts but links with exercices and labs are usually asked.
