| Course contents : | In 2009-2010, the course will be devoted to the question of existence. What does that mean to speak of something as "being" or "existent"? What do we do when we state an existential judgement or even when we tacitly admit the existence of something? Facing those questions, one will study the main answers, which have been proposed - from Kant's thesis that being is not a "real predicate" to Frege's theory of existence as a "second-level predicate" and it's most contemporary implications. |
