Course contents :  Pharmacognosy (partim 1) is mainly focused on phytochemistry: presntation of various kinds of primary (carbohydrates, lipids, proteins ) and mainly secondary metabolites (phenylpropanoids: lignans, flavonoids, coumarins.., terpenoids and steroids, alkaloids...)
Course objective :  To treat the education of pharmacy students in the multidiciplinary field of pharmacognosy:-informations on phytochemical classes and metabolites (active principles mainly) ;-description of plants used not only in medicine but also in food and cosmetics; -survey of main toxic plants of our environment;-pharmacological interest and limitations of medicinal plants used in phytotherapy;-specific methods of quality control of pharmacognosy described in European Pharmacopoiea ( drugs, extracts, essential oils, fixed oils...)
Prerequisites :  Organic chemistry

Workshops :  Extraction , identification and assay of active principles from medicinal plants (monographs of European Pharmacopoeia)

Laboratory of chemistry ( 4th floor) and laboratory of pharmaognosyy (3d floor) of Pharmaceutical Institute (B36)

Schedule:Wednesday 9.00-12.00 ; 14.00-18.00 during 7 weeks from mid-October (in series)
Organization :  Half-year 5
