| Course contents : | The topics we are going to deal with are :
1/ Climate, energy and transport
2/ Food consumption, production and the environment
3/ Agriculture and the environment
4/ Education for sustainable development
Each topic includes :
a. listening comprehension activities from the BBC site(http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/multimedia) and from Al Gore's film 'An Inconvenient Truth';
b. reading comprehension activities from the scientific press(New Scientist, etc) and the Internet;
c. grammar revisions and exercises;
d. writing activities(diagrammes, summaries, letters, etc)
e. speaking activities(interaction and production) |

| Course objective : | At the end of Level 1, the student will reach Level B1- (on his way to B1 'Independent User' - Low) of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
After completing the course the student is expected to
-understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters. Understand the main point of many radio and TV programmes when the delivery is relatively slow and clear.
-understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday or job-related language. Understand the description of events, feelings and wishes in personal letters.
-deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Enter unprepared into conversation on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life.
-connect phrases in a simple way in order to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions. Briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
-write simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. |

| Prerequisites : | The A1 level (beginner) on the reference levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. |
