Course contents :  Oral and written activities based on texts and articles dealing with psychology. Students will be required to participate actively in the course, which implies that they must have read the texts before coming to class.
Course objective :  Improving the four language skills, namely reading, listening, speaking and writing.

Enhancing students' ability to cope with English texts (understanding, summarizing, reacting to the content).

Allowing students to speak about various topics related to psychology through oral presentations and discussions based on the texts of the coursebook.
Prerequisites :  The level of this course corresponds to the European levels B2-C1. Students will thus need to have a good basic knowledge of English and a thorough knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar studied in the first-year course.
Organization :  Weekly 2-hour class in a group of 25 students from Septmber to December.

Thorough preparation is required so as to enable students to progress regularly.
Written notes :  Coursebook Anglais B en 2ème BAC Psychologie, available at Intercopy from September 21st onwards.

Grammaire Anglaise de Base, available at the Editions ULg from November 2009.
Assessment :  1. Continuous assessment (2/20):

marked written assignments
attendance (at least 75%) and active participation in class

2. Written exam (8/20):

reading comprehension exercises based on an unseen text,
vocabulary exercises based on the course,
grammar exercises based on the course, and writing exercises similar to those done during the year.

3. Oral exam (8/20):

oral presentation in class (4)
oral exam = 15-minute discussion based on psychology-related texts or chapters to choose from a readings file (4).

4. Listening comprehension exam (2/20):

This exam will take place in the language lab in the last few weeks of class.

N.B. The marks obtained for work done during the year count for both exam sessions in January and in August.
