Course contents :  Master 1 Introduction to intercultural studies



All the Master students-



Modules 6 X 4 hours.



The students are divided into groups of 20- 90 minute tutorial.



The course book- "Marketing Across Cultures" by Jean-Claude Usunier and Julie Anne Lee fifth edition 2009



The course covers the following:



Part 1



The cultural process



Cultural dynamics 1 Time and Space

Teaching materials - questions /case studies

Cultural dynamics 2- Interactions, mindsets and behaviours



Part 2-





Cross-cultural consumer behaviour

Local consumers and the globalization of consumption



Part 3-



Marketing decisions for the intercultural environment- Intercultural marketing strategy

Product policy 1: physical, service and symbolic attributes



Product policy 2 managing meaning

The critical role of price in relational exchange

International distribution and sales promotion





Part 4 Intercultural marketing communications



Language, culture and communication

Intercultural marketing communications 1: advertising

Course objective :  The course objectives

Understand other cultures, their mindsets, behaviours.

Learn how to work with other cultures

Learn how to respect other cultures

Understand that we are all marketers- in the world of business we deal with customers.

At the end of the module you will have a more in-depth understanding of culture, sales, negotiations and a cross-cultural approach to consumer behaviour and marketing research

Course objectives

C1 Understanding articles : reading comprehension and vocabulary tests (using on-line Wiki)

P2 Short case studies in which they apply course concepts (operations, finance, markets human resources and IT)

P3 Problem-solving.

Managerial skills will be tested during the module: how students organise meetings- to what degree they collaborate- how they define a problem and which steps they use to solve it.

Grammar, listening skills will be tested by an official examiner at the end of the year.
Prerequisites :  You need to have an intermediate to advanced level in English

To answer questions on the different issues the book covers

Be present because the module is based on continuous assessment

Attend all guest lectures - activities will be based on attendance

There will be a special module for the Erasmus students

For the overseas students



You will need to read the first three chapters before the module begins



The module is divided into three groups of twenty students- lasts 90 minutes - you will then prepare your activities for the following week



The module will be in the Aquarium which is on the second floor rue Louvrex



There will be questions on the content , discussion and activities



If you do not participate then you will not receive points.



I will expect you to have a list of new words with their definition in English NOT French (see wordreference.com)

You must bring the course book with you for each tutorial



All the activities and websites are in the book

You will need a file to write down on a continuous basis your reflections on what you are learning; This will be part of your final assessment.
