Course contents :  The course has a C1 CEFR level (for all language skills: listening and reading comprehension, writing, speaking and lecturing).

  • It continues the development of reading, data gathering, and note-taking using texts or sets of texts (as started in the English Level A and English Level B courses).

  • It also focuses on research, analysis and synthesis, and report-writing capacities as well as oral understanding and presentation skills.

Prerequisites :  English Level B (taught in the second year of the Bachelor's Degree in Sciences).

Workshops :  The course features about 25 classes.

Each class requires a long preparation which is essential and mandatory. There are no ex cathedra lectures but rather language seminars in which students will be asked to take part regularly and actively.

Organization :  The in-class course is taught to 25 to 35 students for two hours each week.

Together, preparation, active participation, oral presentations and written assignments during the year account for 50% of the final grade.

Written notes :  Academic English Writing, Lecturing and Note-taking (2009-2010) course notes compulsory. Internet access recommended.
