Course contents :  Systems thinking can be applied to real world's problematical situations involving both human and technological ressources and where it is difficult to intervene efficiently due to a complex net of incompatible requirements, many interdependences between the problem's variables and a high level of uncertainty. Although this discipline has been applied to various domains such as sustainable development, change management or family therapy, we will mostly explore its potentialities in the context of information systems.
Course objective :  We will learn to use tools and methods that enable the system practitionner to
  • identify the main problems of a complex situation,
  • examine its components,
  • analyse interdependencies,
  • understand the system as a whole,
  • explore intervention possibilities.
Workshops :  Cases, auto-evaluation exercises and various diagramming techniques will be used extensively.
