GERE0003-1  Theory of structural calculations
Duration :  25h Th, 35h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
Master in Environmental Bioengineering, Professional Focus, 1st yearToute l'année5
Holder(s) :  Pierre Latteur
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  Calculation and design of hyperstatic 2D et 3D structures (method of forces), thermical and geometrical actions, elastic supports, hyperstatic trusses, elements with soft curving, elements with hard curving, funicular and non funicular arches, cables, numerical methods, finite elements, influence lines, dynamic analysis, second order effects, local and global buckling.
Project (finite element method)
Course objective :  This course completes the students knowledge in strenght of materials (LT201) and construction processes (LT202). A particular accent is put on the learning of numerical methods and on their direct application into a project.
After completing the course the student is expected to
1. Deal with the methods of calculating complex structures with high degree of redumdancy.
2. Modelise special effects as thermic actions or settlement of foundations.
3. Calculate and design special structures as : hyperstatic trusses, funicular or non funicular arches, cables, curved structures.
4. Understand and apply numerical analysis methods.
5. Use a commercial calculation software.
Prerequisites :  -- MA102 - General mathematics (second part)
-- ME101 - Engineering mechanics
-- LT201 - Strength of materials and elasticity
-- MA101 - General mathematics (first part)
Organization :  Lectures : 25h
