Course contents :  Technical and administrative aspects linked to environmental impact assessment and environmental management within the mining/mineral industry. Pollution prevention and sustainable development in the mining sector. Environmental auditing, risk assessment. Legal framework of the mining activities. Disposal of industrial and mining wastes. Environmental monitoring, site remediation and rehabilitation. Small-scale mining and environmental risks.
Course objective :  The course objective is to provide students with understanding about the environmental consequences from mining and industrial activities, their management and implications to the local legislation and mineral resource conservation issues.
Workshops :  Acid generation tests of mine wastes

Acid neutralisation test

Mobility characterisation of certain elements contained in mine wastes
Organization :  Lectures given in English, lab works, site visits
Written notes :  Powerpoint slides and literature references distributed at the beginning of the course
Assessment :  written exam
