Course contents :  1.Defining and differentiating rural areas: typological approach of ruralities and rural areas in Wallonia.
2.Thematic approach of the land management issues and instruments:
- Agriculture and its future within rural areas in Wallonia.
- Rural settlements: its sub-regional diversity and recent peri-urbanisation
- Places and forms for sustainable tourism in the rural environment
- Rural landscapes: diversity, pressures and future.
- Land management in rural areas and the energy issue.
- Sustainable management of water resources within land-use management.
- Towards a territorial local synthesis: integrated approaches to land management of rural areas and municipalities: coordination of instruments
Course objective :  In-depth review of land-use issues specific to rural areas.
After completing the course the student is expected to
- to resume on the basis of bibliographic resources, one of the rural areas land management specific issues
- to understand the interrelations between the themes or sectoral components of territories development
- to approach, through the intersection of thematic regards, the competition between sectors and actors interacting in land planning.
Prerequisites :  -- AT207 - Concepts and method of town and country planning
