Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  1. History of european forest and silviculture
2. Forest ecosystem
3. Technics of silviculture
4. Silvicultural systems (high forest, "near natura silviculture", ligniculture)
5. Forest field visits
Course objective :  Basic principles for silviculture in temperate and tropical countries
After completing the course the student is expected to
- understand the forest ecosystem functioning and its relations with the natural resources (wood, water, air, biodiversity,...);
- identify the silvicultural acts (pruning, thinnings, harvesting, ...) useful to produce quality wood, and their relations with the ecosystem functioning;
- be familiar with the main silvicultural systems (high forest, coppice, coppice with standards treatments, ligniculture, close to nature silviculture,... ) and their associated techniques of renew and harvesting.
