Course contents :  1. Introduction ¿ Basic concepts

Course objective :  Providing an introduction to Genetics and improvement of forest trees
After completing the course the student is expected to
·Be familiar with specific concepts in population genetics and quantitative genetics applied to trees improvement
·Be familiar with main concepts of genetic improvement : provenance, seed stand, seed orchard, clone park, plus tree, elite tree
·Be able to design field plots in order to determine some genetic parameters : genetic and genotypic values, heritability, phenotypic and genetic correlations, genetic gain
·Be familiar with conception of forest trees improvement programs
