Course contents :  1. Detailed study of 4 species (or groups of species): Leaf: common beech and oaks (Q. robur, Q. sessilis, Q. rubra) / Conifers: Norway Spruce and Douglas Fir 2. Brief study of the following species: Common Ash, Gean, Maple, with emphasis on Ash (1 day visit). Populars (1 day visit). Pines (1 or 2 days visit). Firs and other species.
Course objective :  Silviculture of the main species of temperate Europe
After completing the course the student is expected to
- analyse the state of the resource and the socio-economical, technical and site conditions of the forest to define adapted silvicultural scenarios;
- organise and manage the useful technical acts for wood production or other services as recreation, biodiversity,¿;
- master the silviculture of the main production species of Belgium (spruce, Douglas fir, larches, oaks, beech, precious broadleaves).
Prerequisites :  Basic knowledge in forest mensuration, forest species mainly temperate regions and silviculture.
