| Course contents : | The aim of this course is to analyze some political behaviour by using a traditional economic approach. The content is based on the "Public Choice Theory". The following topics are discussed: voting theory (Condorcet's paradox, Arrow's impossibility theorem, the median voter, logrolling, etc.) and the analysis of behaviour in a representative democracy (Downs' model, majority and proportional representation, politico-economic cycles, etc.). It is also emphasised on the role of the public administration (bureaucracy) and lobbies. The size and the growth of government is also explained (demand for public goods, fiscal illusion, low productivity of the public administration, ...) |
