| Course contents : | In 2009-2010 there will be two sections to this course. The first section will be based on a social theory of discourse and in-depth analysis of a range of commentary or editorial articles. It aims to shed light upon the mechanisms governing various instances of censorship or stereotyping. The second section, which will more actively involve the students, consists in using recent works or press packs to categorise the main hypotheses. This will enable us to shed light on the causes and effects of which is conveniently called the "press crisis" (in particular of the so called 'mainstream' press). |
 |
| Course objective : | This course takes the form of an intensive research seminar covering a range of press articles but also books about the press. It will not only encourage an in-depth analysis of the mechanisms behind journalistic discourse, but also gives students the methodological training for drafting their final dissertation. |
