The course is then chronologically structured in order to allow a synthetic comprehension of the development of the history of architecture in the western world, from antiquity till today. Half of the course concerns the history of architecture of the 19th and 20th century. This historical summary is based on the analysis (spatial and contextual) of the main buildings in history of architecture. This course should allow the understanding of the evolution of architecture through time as a social, economic and cultural production of society. The course focuses particularly on the relationship between architecture and its environment (urban or natural). The tools and methods explained during the course are to be put into practice by each student in an individual analysis of a building.
