| Course contents : | This course will first present currents of thought and major authors that have been influential in the history of economic anthropology during the 20th century. Second, we will analyze forms of exchange and circulation of objects; types of production and work; and the construction of identity through consumption. After having studied these three classic themes (exchange, production, and consumption), we will explore the themes of economic policy, of trade networks, and of economic trust on the basis of African case studies. |
| Course objective : | To introduce students to theories and methods in economic anthropology. At the end of the course students should be able to carry out analyses from an original and critical point of view concerning the economic processes that are going on in our increasingly globalized world. |
| Prerequisites : | To have an interest in rethinking economic analysis, and accordingly, in reflecting with new conceptual tools upon the economic and social changes of our time. |
| Organization : | The course will take place during the second term. |
| Written notes : | Students will receive a collection of readings, including articles and book chapters from authors studied in the course. |
| Assessment : | Oral examination. |
