| Course contents : | The clinical teaching of the students is achieved by their participation in the clinic to examinations, surgery, anaesthesia and care of in-patients. The participation to admission of emergency cases, care of in-patients and intensive care during the duty is another important part.

| Course objective : |
- To learn to pose a differential diagnosis, the diagnosis and to propose treatment options of surgical pathology.
- To follow and see the practical aspects of surgery and anaesthesia.
- To learn the important practical skills for the treatment of equine emergencies in the different aspects of surgery, internal medicine and reproduction.
- To understand the reasons for the treatments that were given.
- To be able to do a systematic follow-up of the horses in in-patient care and intensive care and to adapt the treatment according to the evolution of the patient. Aquire basic technical skills.

| Prerequisites : | All the theoretical courses of the 1st and 2nd Master degre of veterinary medicine concerning the equine clinic are necessary for the clinic. |
 |
| Organization : | The clinical formation in equine surgery and anaesthesia is completed by the participation to duties during the nights and WE for the aspect of intensive care and emergency management. The clinic takes place from 8h15 AM to 5 PM during the week. The night duty is from 5 PM to 8h30 AM and the week-end duty from 8h30 AM to 8h30 AM next morning. |

| Written notes : | No specific notes for the course. Some written information may be given during the clinic. |

| Assessment : | For the surgery part a written exam (QROC or QROL) and an oral exam are given. The anaesthesia part and the intensive care part are included into the written exams of the courses VETE0078-1 et VETE0081-1. During the clinic in the year the student is evaluated by oral and written tests that influence the final evaluation.

| Remarks : | The frequentation of the clinic ist controlled systematically. The absence at a clinic has to be announced before the beginning of the clinic. The official justification (medical or so) has to be brought to the clinic with a copy for the general secretary of the FMV. . Unjustified absence to the clinique is taken into account for the evaluation of the student and may lead to an exclusion note (7/20). |
