| Course contents : | The most important parasitic diseases according to their frequency in temperate areas, to their clinical impact or their zoonotic potential will be considered during the 40 hours dedicated to the compulsory part of the course. These parasitic diseases are described according to the host species: cattle, small ruminants, pig, poultry and rabbit, equines, dog, cat, new companion animals. For each host species the approach will be based on the different organic systems (the gut, the lungs, the skin, the blood...). After a short reminder about the pathogenic agent and its biology, the epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical signs, diagnosis (including the differential), therapy and prophylaxis of each disease will be exposed. The students of the option "companion animals" will get an additional information on specific parasitic diseases of companion animals which are not included in the compulsory part.

| This section deals with specific parasitic diseases of the companion animals not included in the non optional section because of their relative rarity or their geographic distribution. |

| Course objective : | This course is dedicated to the study of parasitic diseases in domesticated animals. Additionally, some wild species are also dealt with due to their epidemiological or zoonotic impact.
The main goal of the course is to provide the veterinarian to be with the necessary knowledges to reach a diagnosis and implement prophylactic and control measures for the main parasitic infections in the relevant host species. A great emphasis will be given to the prevention of parasitic diseases potentially transmissible to the human beings.

An illustrated CDRom dedicated to Veterinary Parasitology in temperate regions has been realized and will be used during the practicals or at home. Additionnally the content of the course is available via the website of the faculty.
