Feeding systems and clinical feeding of the following species:

Commun section:

- Cattle, sheep end pig: production system and feeding

- Horse: feeding principles

- Companion animal feeding over a life cycle and clinical nutrition

Option - Companion animal

The topic of the lecture is clinical nutrition in companion animals. Feeding practices of reptiles or ferrets are also given.

Knowledge of feeding systems of farm and companion animals

Option - Companion animal

The objective is to explain the tools and theorics (estimations of the needs and nutritional supplies) to help the students to formulate practical diets for companion animals during the last year of the curriculum.

Prerequisites :

  • Knowlegde in ration calculation (first year lectures)
  • Knowlegde in physiology of digestion
  • Knowlegde on pathologies in farm and companion animals

The aim of the paraclinics is to familiarize students to:

  • the practical aspects of companion animals management during a life cycle along with clinical nutrition
  • the management of livestock production according to the life cycle

Organization :

Commun section of 20 h in which:

  • Feeding of farm animals and horses : 12 h (I.Dufrasne, L.Istasse)
  • Feeding of companion animals : 8 h (M. Diez)

Paraclinics :

5 sessions of 2,5 h of supervised work in pets and livestock nutrition

The presence to the paraclinics is compulsory. The student who is missing one or many sessions will be sanctioned by a zero note for the whole paraclinic regardless of the reasons; missed sessions are recoverable.
