STRA0013-1  Seminar of statistics (Second part)
Duration :  40h SEM
Credits/ECTS :
Master in Statistics : General, Research focus, 2nd yearToute l'année4
Master in Statistics : General, Professional focus, 2nd yearToute l'année4
Holder(s) :  Collégialité, Gentiane Haesbroeck
Coordinator :  Gentiane Haesbroeck
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  The seminars are separated into two parts: the first part consists of the attendance to scientific talks given by invited speakers (approximately once a month) who present their own research topics. The second part depends on the research topics and/or consulting problems considered in the statistics units of the mathematics department. The students will be asked (either in groups or individually) to find appropriate ways for solving a given practical or theoretical problem.
Course objective :  Develop general knowledge of statistics (both theoretical and in practical) and familiarize the students to the difficulty of presenting statistical results to non specialists.
Prerequisites :  This course is intended for students who have a strong background on statistics.
Workshops :  See the field organisation below.
Organization :  The course is organised over the two semesters according to a schedule which is distributed in the beginning of the academic year. There are some passive courses (mainly the attendance to the seminars given by external researchers) while others are active since they correspond to the discussion on the topics under consideration.
Written notes :  Not relevant.
Assessment :  The evaluation system is continuous over the two semesters. Active participation and relevant suggestions will be graded by the professors. Moreover, attendance to the 'external' seminars is compulsory and any absence will be taken into account.
