STRA0002-1  Group Projects, laboratory, oral presentations and skills assessment
Duration :
Credits/ECTS :
Bachelor in chemical sciences, 3rd yearDeuxième quadrimestre2
One-year preliminary programme leading to the Master in Chemical Sciences4
Holder(s) :  Valérie Gabelica, Bernard Gilbert
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  The activities related to this course are distributed in two parts:
1- Bilan de compétence : Evaluation of the basic chemistry notions (physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, and organic chemistry).
2- Individual work : the student is doing an internship in one the research labs of the Chemistry Department, under the supervision of a researcher. The student makes experiments, exploits his data and bibliography, takes complete lab notes. The research will be presented to the whole Chemistry Department in a poster session.
Course objective :  The objective is to give students a first introduction to research in a chemical laboratory, and to underline the necessity of mastering all basic chemistry knowledge acquired in previous courses
Prerequisites :  The goal of the written examinations (bilan de compétences) is not to force the student to study again all the previous courses, but to test how they naturally master the basic concepts, those that can never be forgotten.
Workshops :  One week research in a laboratory.
Organization :  Two written exams are organized. A discussion of the first test will be done between the two. If the student has obtained a grade equal or higher than 12, he can keep his note, otherwise he takes the second test.
The laboratory work is organized around Easter.
Written notes :  None
Assessment :  The final grade will be calculated as follows: 1/3rd of the grade for the written exams, 2/3rds for the lab work and the poster presentation.
