Course contents :  The main theoretical chapters are as follows:
Introduction
1. Variability of the atmosphere
2. Radiative processes and energy balance
3. Thermostatics
4. Atmosphere fundamental equations
5. Theory of atmospheric movements
(geostrophic approximation, thermal wind, atmospheric waves, etc)
6. The planetary boundary layer (atmospheric turbulence)
7. Saturation and condensation processes
8. Large-scale atmospheric circulation
9. Circulation in extratropical zones
(fronts)
10. Numerical modelling and forecasting

Course objective :  The objective of the course is an introduction to atmopheric dynamics and meteorological processes.
Prerequisites :  Good knowledge of mathematics and mechanics, basic knowledge of fluid mechanics.
Workshops :  Exercises linked to the various chapters. Visit of a forest micrometerological site and illustration of acquisition and processing of meteorological data at this site.
Organization :  The course is organised in a series of 3-hour lectures.
