Course contents :  The course presents some of the most important recent developments in ethnic and migration studies. It is the logical follow-up of the introductory course « Sociology of Migration ».

During the introductory session, we shall examine the formation and the evolution of ethnic and migration studies as a specific field of social and political research.

We shall then move on to examine some of the most important « new » issues in the field such as: migration, environmental and climatic changes; gender, age and migration; new forms of migrants social and political mobilisation, arts and migration.

In the third part of the course, we shall examine new theoretical perspective in ethnic and migration studies such as: transnationalism; multiculturalism, diversity and social capital; the concept of emigratory career: virtual ethnicity. The list of issues and theoretical perspectives is not fixed and exhaustive.
Course objective :  The aim of the course is to provide the students with knowledge of some of the most important recent developments in ethnic and migration studies.
Prerequisites :  THIS IS NOT A LANGUAGE COURSE !

A passive and active knowledge of written and spoken English is a very strong advantage.
Having taken the course « Sociology of Migration » is an advantage.
Organization :  The course could use 3 pedagogical tools :

- Lectures by the teacher

- Seminars based on the reading and discussion of texts as well as on presentations made by students

-Lectures given by external guests.



The students are required to prepare each session by reading the paper(s) assigned weekly.
