| Course contents : | The course is meant to be at the same moment a detailled introduction to the study of the theories and conceptions which are at the origin of the constitution of sociology as a scientific discipline and an initiation into the analysis and into the sociological reasoning.
Among the purposes of the course:
- control of various sociological paradigms
- detailed knowledge of the main currents and the basic concepts of the sociology
- Acquisition of a sociological reasoning and a critical spirit to approach questions which undergo the contemporary societies.
The course is organized in three different parts, but in narrow interweaving:
the first part is dedicated to the study of the " forming of the sociological mind". After underscoring the context - intellectual, socio-political, economic - in which the project of a new scientific discipline was born, it is a matter of emphasizing the contribution of some "precursors": A. Compte, A. Tocqueville, K. Marx and F. Play.
The second part considers the development of the theories and the forming of the sociological Schools. This part is for the main part dedicated to the presentation of the "founders" of sociology and to their respective Schools: French, German and American. The contribution of each School is envisaged from a major work: the Suicide of Durkheim, The Protestant ethics of Weber, The Polish Farmer of W.I. Thomas and F. Znaniecki.
The third part proposes a presentation and discussion on the evolution and change of sociological paradigms as well in Europe as in the United States. A privileged attention is given to the "constructive" approaches and to the " new sociologies ", by relying on some exemplary works. |
