PHYS2012-1  Relativistic quantum mechanics and relativistic statistics
Duration :  20h Th, 5h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
Master in Space Sciences, Research focus, 1st yearToute l'année3
Master in Space Sciences, Research focus, 2nd yearToute l'année3
Holder(s) :  Joseph Cugnon
Language :  Langue française
Course contents :  The aim of this course is to familiarize the student with relativistic quantum mechanics. It covers the relativistic wave equations (Klein-Gordon, Dirac, Maxwell, Proca) for spin 0, 1/2 or 1 particles. It gives also a short introduction to quantum statistics for relativistic particles.
Course objective :  The objective is to describe relativistics quantum mechanics and discuss the implications of the various wave equations.
Prerequisites :  Having followed an introductory course on non-relativistic quantum mechanics
Workshops :  Solution of illustrative exercises
Organization :  see official time schedule
Written notes :  In preparation
Assessment :  Oral exam bearing on the understanding of concepts
