Course contents :  Study of magnetism in condensed matter. Review of magnetic concepts, units. Review of basic quantum mechanics concepts, spin and orbital moment. Magnetic interactions. Ordered magnetic structures. Low dimension magnetism.
Course objective :  Initiate the student to magnetism and its application.
Prerequisites :  The credits of a basic quantum mechanic course and of a basic solid state physics course are required.
Organization :  The schedule will be fixed at the beginning of the academic year 07-08 by the Department of Physics.
Written notes :  Magnetism in Condensed Matter, Stephen Blundell, Oxford Master Series in Condensed Matter Physics, Oxford University Press.
Assessment :  One oral exam on theory and one exercise.
