This course is intended for students who desire to focus on optical instrumentation basis.
It is still in a introductary level and serve as a baseline for a second follow-up course (Instrumental Optics II)
Course objective :  The main goal is to give an overview of the instrumental optics. From the oldest concepts to the new ages of instruments
Prerequisites :  Basic level in optics is required: geometrical and physical optics, as teached in the Bachelor degree.
Workshops :  15 h (mandatory) :
- Exercices: 2h training with a ray-tracing software
- Personal report: a brief review of a high technology field in instrumental optics  : 4h
- Laboratories: 5h using an optical bench oriented to instrumental applications (optical resolution , photometry...)
- Lab visits: Company specialized in optics and astronomy) (4h)
Organization :  Academic course: 20 h
During 1st period
Labs: mainly on 1st period but might be extended to 2nd one depending on organization.
Written notes :  Course support: slide copies are delivered to the students (+pdf)

Reference books:
- "Optique", E. HECHT, Pearson Education (4e ed) - ISBN 2-7440-7063-7
Also available in English.
- "Optique géométrique et ondulatoire", J.P. PEREZ, éd. Masson (4e éd et suivantes) - 551 pages.
- "Handbook of Applied Photometry", C. DECUSATIS ed., Springer (1997) - 461 pages
Assessment :  Labs and personal reports are valued.
An examination is organized in January (1st session) based on physical understanding.
