| Course contents : | The aims of this lecture are:
- to give an overview of the main outcomes of the experimental and quasi experimental studies in education
- to identify the state of the art in this field of research
The methodological questions and the review of the literature are focussed around one theme: how to improve effectiveness and equity in educational systems. |

| Course objective : | The following chapters will be developed :
- Impact of socio-economic background on achievement - Gender and achievement - Impact of time and opportunity to learn - Mastery of learning - Cooperative teaching - Impact of class size - Impact of ability grouping - Impact of structures in educational systems on effectiveness and equity. |

| Prerequisites : | Introduction to research in education PEDA0516-1 |

| Workshops : | 30 h. of practical activities. Usually, students are invited to participate to a research led in the Service de pédagogie expérimentale. |
 |
| Organization : | 10 sessions of 3 hours. Students are invited to actively participate (work in groups, oral presentations...) |
 |
| Written notes : | Two books are compulsory (Crahay, Lafontaine et Blondin, voir références en français)
Additional readings will be recommanded.
