Course contents :  This course, divided into two parts, prepares students to be teacher trainers (initial training) by closely coupling together construction of a professional identity and the development of abilities with regard to professional didactics.
Course objective :  Partim 1 has the following objectives:
- foster and stimulate reflection on the legal framework and the practical context of the teaching profession;
- cover main concepts and theories involved in construction of a professional identity and in development of appropriate skills;
- development of abilities regarding counseling for future teachers as regards their professional practices;
- stimulate conceptualization of the primary macro-ability of the trainer: to accompany and support the teacher being trained.
Workshops :  - Preparation for accompanying teachers through exercises (use of videotaping in training: techniques, attitudes and warnings; documentary research...) through role-playing in test situations (simulations, construction of tools, analyses of written or videotaped cases...).
- Self-evaluation discussed in a student-led discussion, in a classroom session devoted to self-distancing evaluation with ENS students.
- Personal interview to examine raw data from training courses and analysis of accompaniment and support.
Organization :  The development of the course and the didactic exercises are very closely connected with the first training course (apprenticeship for reflection):

- Anticipation and preparation of the tasks to be carried out on the ground (practical work).
- Exchange, analysis and regulation after each key moment (seminars on accompanying learning).
- Conceptualization and theorizing (theoretical courses).
Written notes :  A book is available: J. Beckers, Développer les compétences et l'identité professionnelle en formation initiale : L'enseignement et autres métiers de l'interaction humaine, à paraître chez De Boeck, décembre 2007.
Technical working documents.
Assessment :  - performance in self-distancing evaluation, evaluating oneself as if evaluating someone else;
- part of training course report (theorizing and self-evaluation).
