| Course contents : | Practical course based on written press, radio and television exercises applied to the science sector. Starting in the academic year 2008-2009, the course contents shall evolve to integrate a fourth media type: the internet. The course will be increased to 40 hours and will be entitled Scientific popularization multimedia workshop. Part of the workshop will be dedicated to learning techniques in order to put information online. |
| Course objective : | To allow students to apply the general practical exercises taught in the 3rd year of the bachelor's degree and the 1st year of the master's degree to the science subject. It aims to perfect basic journalistic techniques (looking for information, cross-checking sources, interview techniques, simplifying messages, etc.) in the demanding domain of science and technology. Particular emphasis is placed on the techniques of popularization. |
| Workshops : | The course focuses on three major practical pieces of work: the first in written press, the second in radio and the third in television. These pieces of work are prepared during classes and at home and must be handed in at the end of the period. At the beginning of the year, students choose a current scientific issue (e.g.: the CERN's new particle accelerator, stem cells, the discovery of a gene associated with such and such a disease, etc.) which will accompany them throughout the course. They have to create a written press article on this theme (approximately 10,000 char), a radio programme (5 minutes) and a TV report (JT format). The audio-visual pieces of work include all the stages involved in creating the report, including the editing. |
| Organization : | The course is organised in the form of a workshop where the students come and present their work in progress. The ten three-hour sessions are used to prepare, plan, redefine and assess the work.

| Assessment : | The students are assessed on the final result of their pieces of work, as well as their participation in the workshop. |
